Hey Guys and gouls Happys here again with yet another Awsome Classic this time its from one of my favourite directors Robert Clouse, the man who brought us the absolutely classic, Enter The Dragon, comes this post apocalyptic tale starring none other than Yul Bryner. Shall we dance indeed! Wow, sounds good so far eh? Well, as it happens it is rather and benefits immeasurably by its fine casting, especially the always superb Max Von Sydow, here playing a character called the Baron, leader of a commune of survivors trying desperately to survive in this harsh new world. As was later to become a staple plot in the plethora of post apocalyptic flicks which were to follow this in the early 1980's, not only is there unease and warring factions within the commune itself, but outside even more hostile groups are forever plotting to wipe out their neighbours. In this instance, a particularly nasty group headed by a man called Carrot(!) (played by perennial bad boy, William Smith) are the antagonists.
As a result of the mounting pressure, The Baron hires lone warrior Carson (Bryner) to help protect them and in a more secretive plan, to have him lead his daughter and her horticultural expert husband to safety, far away from the ravages of the doomed city.
While best remembered for his action output, Clouse was actually a very gifted visual director and here manages to convey some particularly effective scenes of desolation (the visuals over the opening credits carry an especial air of sorrow and emptiness, depicting the end of civilisation).
Action wise, despite his mature years at the time of filming, Bryner is on fine form here as he demonstrates during the fair number of fight scenes contained within. Special mention to, for the rather shocking decision he makes during his final confrontation with his nemesis, a sure illustration of the old motto, 'Desperate times call for desperate measures.'
Overall, while not nearly as exhilarating as some of Clouse's other works such as Enter The Dragon and Black Belt Jones, this is a fascinating film that deserves far more recognition that it presently owns. For fans of the whole post nuke/post apocalyptic genre which was so huge following Mad Max, this is well worth checking out. Its ashame Yul wasnt around to make movies in this day and age, cause in my opinion he would absolutly rule the box office tough guys in todays movies...............I , we miss you Yul you Bad Ass Muther!!!!!!!!!
Hey all you Omega Maniacs, Ol Happywax has got a great flick for you tonight.This action packed and thought-provoking sci-fi drama has been one of my personal favorites for over 30 years. Charlton Heston found his definitive role here, as the last man on earth, a scientist fighting a single handed battle against hundreds of mutant creatures of the night.
"Yes Darth .. D .. A .. R .. T.. H.. ...... !"
Heston is at his best as a bloodless technocrat, a stone killer, "exterminating" mutants with machine guns, pistols, grenades, and his bare hands, all the time giving off an icy air of detachment. Put Chuck up against Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson and he definitely holds his own purely as a Seventies action hero.
"I thought Ruffles where chips !!"
On the other hand, this is also Chuck's best performance as an actor. The fact that he literally has the screen to himself for the first half hour allows him to do things he never did in his "epic star" mode. Watch him buy that used car, making small talk with a rotted corpse. Chuck puts across so much loneliness and yet entirely avoids self-pity, as in "thanks a lot, you cheating bastard." It's a scream to watch the bigger than life Moses dealing with life's everyday hassles, not in reality but in wistful fantasy.

Then watch the WOODSTOCK scene in the movie theater. Here's right wing idealist Charlton Heston watching left-wing hippies dance and frolic. Here's the last man on earth watching huge mobs of people crowd up the world that is now empty. The ironies are razor sharp, and Heston just lies back and lets the dialog work for him. "Just to see, just to really realize, that if you have to be afraid to smile at someone, if you have to be afraid to walk down the street, what kind of world is that? Right?" Note well the master's restraint. He doesn't sneer, he puts much more sadness into the lip-reading bit, with a little self-loathing on the side. The dialog and situation are tailor-made for Heston's cold decisive vocal style. It's not hammy stuff, it's Heston giving you the same kind of chill Deniro achieved in TAXI DRIVER. It's the paranoid loner as tragic hero. This cold withdrawn stuff is right down his power alley, and Chuck sends this scene into the upper decks.
"NRA ! All The Way !!"
Once the movie gets started, Heston gets superb assistance from Anthony Zerbe as the religious fanatic Brother Matthias. Zerbe is superb and the commentary on religious fanaticism is even more relevant today than it was forty years ago. Then there's the sizzling racial subplot, the kill-whitey fanaticism of Brother Zachary striking far too close to home in 1973 but remaining as provocative as ever today. It's disturbing indeed to note the subliminal message of the inter-racial love affair -- the nice white man is happy to take care of the black woman and her children, but only after the assertive black man is dead. A movie that provokes, entertains, and combines scorching social issues with rip-roaring adventure, THE OMEGA MAN is Heston's best.
"Nope -- they sure don't make pictures like that any more."
Hey guys , Happys here and its Apocolyptic August time, and I've got one question for all of you, Is this the future that awaits us? An overpopulated, unforgiving wasteland with a hellish, unwanted existence? This film brings to mind a problem that still plagues us, doubly so since the film was released back in 1973. Let's hope that the world isn't going to end up like this...
Soylent Green is a wild movie that I enjoyed very much. It had likable characters, a semi-apocalyptic setting, a compelling and thought-provoking storyline, and the macho-est macho man out there: Charleton Heston!!!! Richard Fleischer gave the movie a very unpleasant, dirty feel. You're almost choked by the stench from the city and its filthy inhabitants.
The characters are wonderful. Charleton Heston, who has become one of my favorite actors, IS Thorn. The man created this role of badass, yet likable tough-guy. I could definitely put myself in Thorn's shoes. He sees that something isn't right, but everyone around him either doesn't listen (more like paid not to listen) or wants him dead. Edward G. Robinson (in his last film, R.I.P.) plays the lovable old Sol, who has had enough of this nasty place. Everyone else is great, especially Leigh Taylor-Young as Shirl, a piece of "furniture" that comes with the apartment in which she resides.
The special effects are fantastic, even for 1973. The Soylent Green factory, the futuristic apartments, and especially the "scoops" (bulldozers that get rid of people) were excellent. The polluted air outside looks disgusting and very nasty. The empty city streets filled with the vile and putrid people are very unsettling.
One final note is the ending, which even now still shocks me. It is gruesome, but if you think about it, it's a pretty good idea of what might lie ahead for all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Bottom Line:
An excellent 70's Science Fiction flick that makes you think and leaves you feeling very uneasy.

Hey all you Gore Hounds , your old pal Happys got a great flick for you tonight, this was one of the first movies I ever rented when I was old enough to get my very own Jumbo video rental card , Ohhhh the memories I have of spending hours in that back room looking at horror movies, oohh wait those weren't horror movies in that room, aww well still great memories anyways , actually the were magnificent and Montag the Magnificent (Ray Sager) is just that: Magnificent. Right in front of his audience's eyes, Montag chainsaws, spikes, decapitates, and performs a whole array of other mutilating acts. But, with a wave of his hands and a bit of hypnotism, he repairs them with a snap. Unfortunately for his 'willing volunteers,' as soon as their hypnotism lifts, they literally fall apart at the seams. Now, it's up to a talk-show host (Judy Cler) and her fiancé (Wayne Ratay) to uncover the mysteries that lie beneath the illusionist surface of Montag the Magnificent.
Obviously this is not the perfect film. . . like many of the splatterfests/gore features of the 60s & 70s, it's a very low-budget affair ($60,000 in 1970 would be less than $350,000 today) that is quite apparently more concerned with shock & gore than, you know, great writing, direction, and sound quality. But, that's what you're supposed to expect when you watch a film like this. Therefore, it's better to judge it as a splatter film rather than some type of masterpiece of film-making. And, as a splatter film, it's solid gold, Montag is a fascinating subject and his work is extremely shocking. The story works well from the 'hypnotism' and 'double deaths' for Montag's victims to the 'heroes' who must investigate him. . . it all worked.
While the sound & video quality were obviously not superb, a better DVD with more care for remastering could solve that. The acting wasn't unbearable, especially for a grindhouse splatter film. But, what's most important: The gore. While it was obviously not believable in some parts (parts where it probably wasn't supposed to be (like Montag's decapitation at the very beginning)), it was still utterly grotesque and real enough for me. Fans of HGL and similar splatter-makers will not be disappointed in this one. And as always your old pal as a treat for you, after hours and hours of searching, ok ok I only spent a couple of minutes, but non the less I was able to find the Entire movie "The Wizard of Gore" on line and Ive posted on here for all you Gore Hounds to Enjoy!!!!!!
Hey all you Horror hounds, Happys in the dungeon with another movie I just cant seem to make my mind up on .In Pete Walker's The Flesh and Blood Show, a group of young actors, preparing for a show in a ramshackle theatre at the end of a pier, become the target of a maniac with a hatred of decadent thespian types. With little in the way of gore, but loads of nudity by way of recompense, this kitschy take on the old 'Ten Little Indians' story (by Agatha Christie) is great fun for those who love 70s UK horror.
The film opens with budding actresses Carol (busty Luan Peters) and Jane (sexy Judy Matheson) being awakened in the middle of the night by a knocking at their door. With Carol leaping naked from her bed (which she shares with her roomate!) to see who it is, it becomes clear that Walker hasn't completely forgotten his sex/comedy roots—after all, how many girls do you know that would be happy to open their front door in the nude?
Anyway, the caller turns out to be a practical joker named Tony (he staggers through the door pretending that he has been stabbed), with whom Carol has recently worked on a horror film. No acceptable explanation is given for his unusual arrival at the girls' place, but after some brief chit-chat, it transpires that both he and the two women have been given a job in a new show. They are to travel to the seaside town of Eastcliff where they will meet the rest of the cast (which includes 'Confessions' star Robin Askwith, and Jenny Hanley, presenter of kids' TV show Magpie) and the producer, Mike (Ray Brooks), to begin rehearsals.
Of course, it's not long after their arrival at the spooky old theatre that the troupe's number starts to dwindle, as the mysterious killer sets to work.
The Flesh and Blood Show might not be as shocking as some of Walker's later efforts, and is certainly not as gruesome, but with every pretty female in some state of nakedness during the film, a truly hilarious finalé featuring a Shakepeare quoting lunatic, and even a sequence shot in 3D, and the fact that I LOVE BOOBS it's still a film worth seeking out.

Hey there all you Devil Car Crazies !! Axemaster's back in the dungeon tonight , because the highways aren't safe any more !! Because of ................ The Car !!! This is another Classic flick full of Demonic Highway Highballing Horror ! Here's the story line in a nut shell ...........
Open on a Desert vista ............ All is quiet ........ Sterile ....... Then , as if it is born out of the sand and stone ... a dust trail appears on the shimmering horizon . The wind brings the distant , but growing growl of straight pipes and an engine , tuned for speed .............. Daaaaat Dat Dat Dat Dat Dat Dat !!!!! An Eerie horn blasts through the silent heat !
Cut to two young cyclists enjoying the twisting desert highway . Two hapless kids out for a ride and a picnic ! (And a little something else ! Hey It's the 1970's ! Lets Party !") Suddenly , we see , through reddish tint , the drivers view of the roadway , and we hear those straight pipes !! And there its is coming up on our love birds !! It Blasts out of a tunnels and closes in ! The gleaming chrome bumper scraping the back tire of cyclist number ones bike ! The Car pulls up beside her and scrapes her over the side of a cliff ! On to cyclist number two !! (This feels like a game show ! ) The Car follows him out on to a bridge spanning a huge canyon , and Yup , You guessed it , Over the side he goes !!
"Dam G.P.S. !! Never works right !!"
Meanwhile , in the sleepy town of Santa Ynez , officer Wade Parent is just waking up . With the help of his cute little teacher girlfriend Lauren ! They Mess around , she sneaks out the back door , he gets his girls up and he's off to work on the motor bike ! Now while Wade and Lauren are getting frisky , The Car has claimed a third victim over at Amos Clements place . This time it's a french horn playing hippie (some times the lord works in mysterious ways!) who happened to wake Old Amos up with his instrument ! Amos told him to beat it or he'd shove his bugle up his arse and he'd be "Farting music for a year !" The hippie packs up his horn and sticks out his thumb to catch a ride , but ends up catching way more than he bargains for ! Daaat Dat Dat Dat Dat Dat !! The Car Shreds this guy like hamburger !!! So by the time Wade gets to work , he's got Three dead bodies , and reports of an Eerie looking vehicle .
" Ah valet Parking !! How Classy !"
Sheriff Everett tries to put the net out for the mystery Car . Unfortunately , that night , as Everett walks out into the street , The Car is waiting !! Its takes him out in a flash of dark Chrome and a peel of rubber !
This leaves Wade in charge . Its now up to him to figure out what is happening in and around Santa Ynez . There are two witnesses to Everett's murder . Amos Clements (Hillbillies are so unreliable !) and an old Native woman who saw The Car as it flashed past ! She says some weird stuff , like there are bad things coming on the wind , and she is taking her family back up into the hills at first light ! Oh and she also says ..... The Car ... Has No Driver !!! ( Gulp !!) Naturally Wade and the boys think she's had one too many vision quests , and they get back to patrolling and checking out leads . However ..... Wade soon finds that the hunt gets personal !! And That The car ....... is more than he expected !
Will Wade and the good old boys on the santa Ynez Police force be able to triumph over this Rampaging Devil Rod !?? Will Satans Sedan Chew more hapless Santa Ynezians !!??

You'll have to watch and find out for yourselves Fright Fans ! It is interesting that back in the 1970's , old James Brolin was a real Devil fighter for a couple of years anyway . In 1979 he would once again do battle with the demons in "The Amityville Horror " (All this Demon Battling must have prepared him for Babs !) Director Elliot Silverstein (A Man Called Horse) keeps the blood pumping with this flick ! He also does a good job of turning a Car , into a diabolical Character , with seemingly sinister intelligence .
"Oh Boy ! We shouldn't have let Grandma Drive !!"
Once again , I go against the I.M.D.B. rating of this flick . But I feel , we appreciate Horror a little more than those dudes ! (No Offense guys !)
But as always , I'll let You decide Horror Hounds ! So grab that popcorn , turn out the lights , and take a bit of a wild ride with The Car .......... If you dare !!
